Statistician (Data Analyst) at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology

At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The operations consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a statistician (data analyst) to be placed at the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry is a dynamic and interdisciplinary research and educational environment with a strong clinical foundation. Here, both basic and applied research is conducted in psychiatric diseases, neurobiology, and treatment methods – in close collaboration with healthcare. The position offers a central role in a growing research field with great opportunities for development and collaboration across professional boundaries.

Job Responsibilities

A research group at the section, conducting research on the side effects of lithium treatment with a particular focus on kidney damage, works with extensive registry and lab data from Sahlgrenska University Hospital. We are now looking for a statistician (data analyst) for an intermittent position focusing on advanced data processing, analysis, and modeling of large datasets.

The work requires:

  • very good knowledge of Python (especially pandas) and statistics
  • documented experience in data processing of clinical or research-related data
  • ability to work in a structured and reproducible manner
  • understanding of confidentiality and ethical requirements in handling sensitive patient data (e.g., GDPR, ethically approved projects)

The work can largely be performed remotely and scheduled flexibly.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, data science, or another relevant quantitative discipline
  • Very good knowledge of statistics, statistical models, and programming – especially in Python and pandas
  • Ability to work in a structured and reproducible manner with large datasets

Desirable:

  • Ongoing or previous doctoral studies in mathematics, statistics, physics, or related fields
  • Experience in research work with clinical or registry-based data
  • Previous work with statistical modeling and advanced data management

Employment

The position is a fixed-term (intermittent) employment for 11 months. You will work hours as needed with placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement.
